Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our cabinet refinishing process, timelines, finishes, and what to expect during your project

1. How long does cabinet refinishing take?

Most cabinet refinishing projects take approximately 5 business days from start to finish, depending on the size and condition of the kitchen. Doors and drawer fronts are removed and sprayed off-site, while cabinet boxes and fixed components are prepared and finished in your home.

2. How much does kitchen cabinet refinishing cost?

The cost of cabinet refinishing depends on the number of doors and drawers, the size and configuration of the kitchen, the condition of the existing cabinets, and the preparation required. We provide a detailed, project-specific estimate after reviewing your cabinetry and the scope of work.

3. Is cabinet refinishing cheaper than replacing the cabinets?

If your existing cabinets are structurally sound and you're happy with the current layout, refinishing can be a practical alternative to a full cabinet replacement. It allows you to dramatically update the appearance of your kitchen at a fraction of the cost, leaving budget available for other upgrades such as countertop replacement and backsplashes.

4. Do you spray or brush the cabinets?

Our cabinet finishes are professionally sprayed to create a smooth, consistent appearance without the visible brush and roller texture associated with traditional application methods. Doors and drawer fronts are sprayed off-site, while cabinet boxes are carefully masked and sprayed on-site.

5. What products do you use to refinish cabinets?

We select our primer based on the existing cabinet surface and its condition. This may include an oil-based stain-blocking primer or pigmented shellac where appropriate. Our preferred finish coating is Sherwin-Williams Gallery Series or Renner 765 (catalyzed) depending on customer preferences. Both are professional coatings designed for cabinetry and other high-touch surfaces.

6. Do I need to empty my kitchen before cabinet refinishing?

You generally don't need to completely empty the kitchen, but we'll let you know which areas need to be cleared before work begins. Countertops, appliances, floors and surrounding surfaces are carefully masked and protected before preparation and spraying.

7. How durable are professionally refinished cabinets?

Durability depends heavily on proper preparation, priming, application and curing. Our refinishing process is designed around each of these stages rather than simply applying new paint over the existing finish. Our cabinet refinishing work is also backed by a 5-year warranty against paint failure, peeling and bleed-through.

8. Can all kitchen cabinets be refinished?

Many existing cabinets can be successfully refinished, but not every surface or cabinet condition is an ideal candidate. We assess the existing material, coating and overall condition before recommending refinishing. If we don't believe refinishing is the appropriate solution, we'll let you know.
